Lagangilang, Abra – The 24th Infantry (Wildcat) Battalion facilitated an Elder’s Forum and a two-day Youth Leadership Summit in Tubo, Abra on 09-10 February 2019.
It is in Tubo, Abra where 24IB has successfully encouraged to surrender eight regular NPAs and 13 Militiang Bayan (MB) from 2016 to date.
In line with the unit’s program on the youth sector, the Wildcat Battalion under the leadership of Lt Col Jearie Boy P Faminial, Commanding Officer spearheaded a two-day municipal-wide Youth Leadership Summit dubbed as the “1st Tubo Municipal Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) 2019”. It was attended by 87 youth coming from the 10 barangays of Tubo, Abra.
The purposes of the summit are to enhance the leadership qualities of the youth, promote camaraderie, expand their role in nation building, promote awareness on deceiving issues and activities of lawless groups and organizations and enhance their potential as active responders to any eventualities that may come ahead of them.
Simultaneously, the unit also facilitated a one-day Elder’s Forum yesterday which has the purpose of gathering issues and concerns of the said sector and further discuss its resolutions with the concerned government agencies and organizations.
The said undertakings were initiated by the 24IB Troopers in partnership with the LGU of Tubo, Abra, headed by Hon. Mayor Guilbert P Ballangan.
Brigadier General Lenard T Agustin AFP, Acting Commander of 7th Infantry Division lauded the initiatives of 24IB and extended his gratitude to the support of the local officials of Tubo, Abra.
BGen Agustin also said, “It is important to engage all sectors of the society for they are the ones we are serving. Also, these sectors of society are prospected targets of Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) so we better equip them against the deception and lies of the rebel groups”.
Lt Col Jearie Boy P Faminial conveyed that the partnership of the Army and the local government units as well as other organizations is vital in solving issues that are exploited by the communists.
