Weary NPA Couple Surrender in Bukidnon

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – An NPA Team leader, together with his wife, surrenders to the 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion, 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division at Brgy. Poblacion, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon Province, earlier this morning April 17, 2019.

AKA Jeffrey, 22, Team Leader of Squad 2, Platoon 2, RSDG COMPAQ, North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC) and his party wife, AKA Maymay, 27, Medical and former Supply Officer of same platoon, both residents of Sitio Ki-ongkog, Brgy. Palabucan, Libona, Bukidnon voluntarily surrendered to the Army through localized negotiation efforts.

According to reports, the negotiation started last 2018, “We were just looking for a chance to surrender because we want to live a peaceful life and create a family away from the armed struggle. We realized that fighting against the government will bring no peace but to our graves”, said @Jeffrey

In the same manner, @Maymay was emotional remembering her sufferings, “Joining the NPA did nothing good to my life and I regret every bit of my decision. I have wanted a child but because of lack of sleep and food, I had 2 miscarriages. I lost my children because of the NPA.”

Lt Col. Ronald M Illana, Commander, 8th IB said, “I am happy with the decision of @Jeffrey and his wife @Maymay. We will process their inclusion as beneficiaries of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and recipients of free housing from the National Housing Authority (NHA). We just hope that more of their comrades will follow their lead and choose to live a peaceful life.”

Since the start of 4ID’s “Peaceful War” during the first quarter of 2019, there were a total of 713 surrenderees composed of NPA Regulars, Militia ng Bayan (MBs), Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) and Underground Mass Organizations (UGMOs).

Col. Edgardo Y De Leon, Commander 403rd Brigade stated, “The influx of surrenderees is a clear manifestation that the CNTs have disintegrated. We know this based on the testimonies of the Former Rebels (FRs) that most of the members are now planning to surrender and are just waiting for an encounter with the government troops to have that chance. Our message to them is not to wait because they are just prolonging the agony inside a group that is fighting for a useless cause.”

Maj. Gen. Franco Nemesio M Gacal, Commander, 4th ID emphasized, “We are continuing our local peacetalks so that more CNT members will return to the folds of the law. I am confident that they are heading our call and we are once again reaching out to the members of the CNTs who are still in the mountains to surrender and avail of the E-CLIP while they still can. The more you resist and go against the government, the more you put yourselves in danger by pushing away your chances of living a peaceful and meaningful life”, Gacal ended.

The E-CLIP is a program of the government for those members of the NPA who will return to the folds of the law. The program includes financial assistance up to 65,000 pesos, free housing, free education and many more. A reintegration process will also take place which will prepare them in their return to the community and live peacefully together with their families.
