Camp Sumoroy, Catarman, Northern Samar – Troops of 3rd Infantry (Regardless Of What) Battalion led by 1lt Mark Angelo B Pandoy, while conducting Focused Military Operation (FMO) at Brgy Sag-od, Las Navas, NSamar discovers thirty-eight (38) Anti-Personnel Mine (APM) at noon yesterday around 12:00 September 22, 2022.
Accordingly, the said troops were conducting pursuit operation against fleeing CTGs from the last encounter at Brgy Senonogan de Tubang, Silvino Lubos, Northern Samar. While on their route, troops discover enemy tracking left by fleeing CTGs that led them to the cache of thirty-eight (38) anti-personnel mines (APM) at vicinity of Brgy. Sag-od, Las Navas, Northern Samar.
Likewise, this anti-personnel mines were used by CTGs to ambush Government Forces and stockpiling of it has endangered lives of civilians, and as we recall “The 1997 Convention on the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction is the international agreement that bans antipersonnel landmines” usually referred as the “Ottawa Convention or the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty”.
The recovery of the anti-personnel mines is result of the government’s effort and dedication of government forces in ending the local armed conflict in Northern Samar.
Meanwhile, Col Perfecto P Peñaredondo MNSA PA, 803rd Brigade Commander, commended the efforts of 3IB in its successful operation. Further, encouraged the civilian entities to support the governments’ campaign against the CTGs.
