Military troops seized more war materials as the clearing operations continued in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan Province.
While conducting combat clearing operation in Barangay Ulitan, Ungkaya Pukan at 1:30 p.m. Sunday (September 25), troops of the 18th Infantry Battalion recovered a link for .50 caliber Heavy Machine Gun (HMG), two rounds of .50 caliber HMG ammunition, one trigger mechanism for M14 rifle, one handguard, one M14 lower receiver, Bushnell scope, one commercial radio, dental/medical tools, four bandoliers, and assorted ammunition.
Likewise, at 3:50 p.m. of the same day, operating troops of the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion also conducted clearing operation in the same barangay resulting in the recovery of one short magazine for M16 rifle, two bandoliers, three rounds of .50 caliber HMG ammunition, and two rounds of 40mm Cartridge High Explosive for M203 Grenade Launcher.
Meanwhile, the 18IB troopers continued their operations on Monday morning (September 26) and recovered one Rocket-Propelled Grenade. Personnel from the 12th Division Reconnaissance Company also scoured the area and recovered one improvised shotgun and one pouch in the same barangay.
In addition, soldiers from the 4th Special Forces Battalion recovered one .50 caliber HMG without barrel, 31 rounds of .50 caliber HMG ammunition, 51 rounds of .50 caliber HMG linked ammunition, and one bandolier.
Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, Commander of Joint Task Force Basilan, said that operating troops continue to scour the area to ensure that all war materials are recovered and safely kept.
WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr. commended the troops of Joint Task Force Basilan for their unrelenting efforts to clear the province from hostilities. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the local government units and the peace-loving people of Basilan.
