Road to link former NPA-affected village to AgNor development centers now completed

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte – The 23rd Infantry Battalion (23IB) of the Army is seeing great opportunities for a community in Agusan del Norte that was formerly affected by the Communist New People’s Army (NPA) Terrorists (CNTs) upon the completion of the 3.1-kilometer road in Barangay Talo-ao, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. The constituents of the aforementioned barangay will now have an easy access to market and development centers in the province.

Last July 27, 2021, Lt. Col. Julius Cesar C. Paulo, the commander of 23IB joined the turnover of the said newly completed road project in Barangay Talo-ao, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. The turnover ceremony was led by Agusan del Norte Gov. Dale B. Corvera, together with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Gov. Ramon Bungabong, Tomas O. Tener, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, Engr. Renato Corvera, Provincial Engineer, Senior Operations Manager Engr. Angel A. Abrao, Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office Director Col. Martin Gamba, and other top officials of the province.

The road project was initiated by the provincial government of Agusan del Norte and the Deprartment of Interior and Local Government 13 (DILG 13) under the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces program. It was formally accepted by the Barangay Council of Talo-ao headed by Barangay Captain Abelardo Cañete.

“The completed road project will completely transform Barangay Talo-ao, from being a threatened community to a barangay filled with opportunities for development, especially for the residents,” Paulo said.

The road will not only directly link the people of Talo-ao to the different market and development centers in the province, but also pave the way for the initiatives and services of the government to reach the people in the area.

“Barangay Talo-ao is one of the developed areas in Buenavista with the road in place, the delivery of government programs and projects will no longer be hampered,” Paulo said.

The 23IB commander also assured the people of Talo-ao of the Army’s continued support to their endeavors to achieve lasting peace and sustainable development in their barangay.
