Bancasi, Butuan City – Army’s 30th Infantry (Python) Battalion under 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade, Philippine Army battled members of CPP-NPA terrorists (CNTs) in Sitio Puyawon, Barangay Mahanub, Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte at around 10:05 a.m. of February 19, 2019.
The government troops were responding to the reports from local populace of NPA terrorists extorting from the people when they encountered more or less 30 CNTs of SYP16C, GF16, NEMRC under @Jacob. Firefight lasted for about thirty minutes afterwhich the enemy scampered to different directions leaving one dead NPA, one M16 rifle, three long magazines for M16 rifle, fifty-six rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one anti-personnel mine (APM), one blasting cap, five meters electrical wire, one backpack, one bandoleer and five meters utility rope. The dead body was turned-over to the brgy officials and PNP personnel for identification and proper disposition.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the killed CNT. It is disheartening that NPA terrorists will just leave their dead comrades behind. We will coordinate with the local government unit and local authorities to ensure that the slain CNT will be delivered to his family for proper burial”, LtCol Allen Raymund Tomas, Commanding Officer of 30IB said.
Col Maurito L Licudine, the newly-installed Brigade Commander of the 402nd Infantry Brigade said, “We strongly condemn the extortion of the CNTs living off the hard earned money of the innocent civilians. We appreciate the overwhelming support of the people in tipping-off the presence of CNTs. This is a clear indication that the people are already fed-up of the CNTs’ decades long of banditry and extortion.
It is not too late. I urge the NPAs to lay down their arms and return back to the folds of the law to avoid suffering the same fate. There is still hope to start a new life together with their families. The NPAs can avail the government’s Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP)”, Col Licudine added.
