CAMP SANG-AN, ZDS- A top NPA commander was apprehended in a joint law enforcement support operations at the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Hospital, Pagadian City Tuesday.
The apprehended NPA commander was identified as alias JOTHAM/HENRY, of the Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU) Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) operating in Zamboanga Peninsula.
Army’s 53IB and Zamboanga del Sur’s Police Provincial Office led the said joint operations which resulted to the capture of the said NPA commander.
The capture was a result of the ongoing hot pursuit operations against the members of MRGU yesterday, September 21, 2020 in Barangay Marangan, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur which also resulted to the death of one NPA terrorist and capture of multiple high-powered firearms.
In a statement, 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said that this success is also the success of all the unit’s stakeholders.
“We thank all our stakeholders, people who played a vital role in our campaign to end local communist armed conflict in our area,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
“With the commander out of the equation, we are now one step closer to our goal,” Lt. Col. Herrera added.
Meanwhile, Army’s 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas encouraged the troops to maintain the momentum that NPA’s leadership is collapsing.
“We can now see that they are at the brink of collapse. Take heart; in due time, we will achieve the peace we are so longing for,” said Brig. Gen. Nicolas”
Also, 1st Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio said that the Army will ensure that the apprehended NPA commander will be taken care of, regardless of his position and leadership in the armed group.
“Your Army will remain professional and will ensure that alias JOTHAM will be medically taken cared of,” said Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio.
Said NPA commander is now undergoing medical care for his wounds suffered during the recent combat encounter.
