Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – September 13, 2021
Troops of the 2nd Marine Brigade participated in the 70th Founding Anniversary Celebration of Notre Dame of Bongao on September 8, 2021. With the theme, “NDB: Remembering and Envisioning at 70”, the event coinciding with the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was highlighted with commemorable activities such as the Eucharistic Celebration held at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Chapel in Bongao followed by a town motorcade from Notre Dame of Bongao campus towards the 2nd Marine Brigade Headquarters 2nd Marine Brigade.
A short program was then held at the secluded open ground inside Marine Barracks Domingo Deluana, Brgy Sanga-Sanga, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. This was graced by the presence of Sr. Imelda Mission OND, the School Administrator and Directress and the school faculty and staff of Notre Dame, and Col. Romeo Racadio, the Commander of 2nd Marine Brigade/Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi.
Said program featured Muslim cultural dance presentations rendered by the members of the faculty. Parlor games were also prepared for the participants. The activity, the first of its kind, has fostered a newfound relationship and partnership between the military and the academe/religious (interfaith) sector.
In his remarks, Col Racadio, an alumnus of Notre Dame of M’lang, Cotabato himself said that such momentous celebration will pave the way for strengthened cooperation between the two sectors while they continue to work together, plan out, and collaborate for future interfaith activities under the Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) program in the province.
Notre Dame of Bongao with its mission to bring quality education in the remote areas of the country has launched a unique interfaith commonality/mutual program in its campus considering that majority of its primary to senior high school students are believers of Islam faith.
Covid protocol was strictly observed during the duration of the celebration.
