Matikas Troopers clash with NPAs in Iriga City

TIGAON, Camarines Sur –One (1) section of Bravo (DEFENDER) Company, 83rd Infantry (MATIKAS) Battalion, 9th Infantry (SPEAR) Division led by 2LT ROMMEL N LIMAS (INF) PA, while conducting strike operation in Brgy. Sta. Isabel, Iriga City, encountered more or less 20 NPAs on November 28, 2018.

The said clash happened on 6:20 in the morning at Zone 7 of the said barangay in which the firefight lasted for 10 minutes. There was no casualty on the government side while undetermined on the enemy side. After the encounter, the Matikas troopers were able to recover the following:
-one (1) Apple type hand grenade
-ele ven (11) steel magazines with ammunitions
-one (1) Acer Laptop
-one (1) projector
-five (5) books
-two (2) NPA flags with ‘50’ sign
-eight (8) cellphones and four (4) chargers
-medicine kits, toiletries and some personal clothes
-five (5) hammocks
-five (5) poncho
In order to normalize the effect of the encounter that had caused trauma and fear to the community, the unit deployed quick reaction team led by 2LT JUGANENO INTELIGANDO (INF) PA. They conducted community dialogue to barangay officials and residents of the said barangay about the said encounter. In addition, they distributed Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integrated Program (E-CLIP) leaflets to disseminate the programs of the government for Rebel Returnees and encourage the community to give information about NPA presence in their area.
Lieut. Colonel Tommy A Deliva, Commanding Officer of this unit, was very glad of the unit’s accomplishment and confidently ensures the community that the unit will continue its pursuit against NPAs especially that they will celebrate their 50th Founding Anniversary this coming December 26, 2018. Truly, the 83rd Infantry (MATIKAS) Battalion and the 9th Infantry (SPEAR) Division in general is firm and serious in executing its mandate to fight the insurgency in Bicol Region.
