PAGADIAN CITY, July 31 (PIA)– A member of the Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peoples’ Army (CPP-NPA) who reportedly suffered from dengue fever was left by his comrades.

Aka “Jonathan,” 19, of Barangay Pisompongan in Midsalip town said while walking at nighttime  with the CPP-NPA group in the mountain, he felt uncomfortable, was sick and down with fever. He said the CPP-NPA abandoned him after learning that he was sick.

The operating troops of Alpha Company, 53rd IB, Philippine Army found and rescued him, and immediately brought him  to the hospital for medical treatment.

Upon learning the incident, LtColonel Marlowe Patria, commanding officer of the 53rd IB,  paid a visit to  “Jonathan” in the hospital and checked on his health condition.

Jonathan was grateful to the soldiers for immediately bringing him to the hospital to receive immediate treatment.

“Nagpasalamat ko ug dako sa 53rd IB nga ila ko gitabangan ug gidala pagdali sa balay tambalanan.  Wala nila igsapayan nga ako miyembro sa CPP-NPA, ang ilang gihunahuna nga maluwas akong kinabuhi (I am very grateful to the 53rd IB for helping and bringing me to the hospital. They did not mind even if I am CPP NPA member. They are only after of saving my life), Jonathan said.

At the time of his confinement, Jonathan experienced chills, visual disturbances, and skin rashes.

With the sad fate that he experienced, he promised not to rejoin the CPP-NPA.

“I will never join the organization. I was only deceived by their false doctrine. I don’t have a good future with them,” Jonathan said in  local dialect.

“After my recovery, I will apply as a CAFGU member of the Philippine Army to help them in maintaining peace and order,” he promised. (ALT/GCC/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur)
