LANAO DEL SUR — Four high-powered firearms from two towns were turned over to the 82nd Infantry Battalion (82IB) afternoon of August 1, 2020.
Kapai Municipal Mayor Aida Gauraki led the surrender of one Cal. 50 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle and one 7.62mm Bolt Action Sniper Rifle. Meanwhile, Tagoloan II Municipal Mayor Cosain Capal surrendered one M16A1 Elisco rifle and one Cal 30 US M1 Carbine.
Lieutenant Colonel Rafman Altre, 82IB Commanding Officer, effectively executed the intensified key-leader engagements with local chief executives of Kapai and Tagoloan II. This strengthened the resolve to sustain the campaign on the eradication of loose firearms in Lanao del Sur.
“Eradicating culture of violence will pave the way to a more peaceful and more conducive for development municipality,” said Kapai Mayor Gauraki.
On the other hand, Tagoloan II Mayor Capal lauded the military for the information drive against the proliferation of loose firearms.
The towns of Kapai and Tagoloan II have been steadfast in supporting the program of the government against loose firearms.
Lt Col Altre expressed admiration on the efforts of the two (2) town chiefs. He is encouraging the other mayors in Lanao del Sur cooperate with the 82IB in stopping the proliferation of loose firearms
“The efforts of Kapai and Tagoloan II are contributing a lot in our quest for a just and lasting peace in the province,” said Lt Col Altre.
“May their initiatives be replicated and be an example to other municipalities,” Lt Col Altre ended.
