May 14, 2021, Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Jolo, Sulu – A body of an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member was found after a Joint Task Force (JTF) – Sulu’s 2nd Special Forces Battalion’s clashed with the terror group in Indanan, Sulu.
“The firefight ensued around 7:55am of May 14 in Sitio Urot, Brgy Kagay, Indanan. The bandits attempted to flee but was pursued by the operating troops of the Special Forces led by Ltc Benito Ramos,” said JTF-Sulu and 11th Infantry Division Commander MGen William N Gonzales.
According to Ltc Ramos, the recovered body was identified as Arab Undo, who is believed to be in his late 20s and is under the group of sub-leader Ellam Nasirin. Initial reports suggest that the encountered ASG faction was under sub-leader Almujer Yadah, affiliate of notorious terrorist Mundi Sawadjaan. “It is possible that Mundi was also there, trying to cling to the group of Yadah or Nasirin as his own group members were recently neutralized.”
“After scouring the encounter site, we have found one cal. 45 pistol, a backpack, a solar panel, various personal belongings, and food stuff enough for ten people,” Ltc Ramos added.
Meanwhile, three soldiers incurred shrapnel wounds as a result of the clash. All of them are already in stable condition and confined at the military station hospital in Jolo.
According to MGen Gonzales, all troops in Indanan are on high alert as the Special Forces conduct pursuit operations to neutralize the remaining members of the group. He also recognized the cooperation of locals in the area.
“To accomplish our mission, we first have to locate the enemy. The people of Indanan have again demonstrated their commitment to actively do their part in ending terrorism by tipping-off the presence of these bandits. For our part, we will remain relentless in our operations to finish off the group of Sawadjaan and do our very best to bring peace in the region.”
