CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela – The 501st Infantry Brigade, 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army conducts relief operations in the province of Cagayan benefitting more than 3,000 families on November 15, 2020.
In the situation briefing held in Tuguegarao City Airport presided by no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, of the 28 municipalities of Cagayan, only three were saved from the devastation of flood caused by the heavy rains brought by the three consecutive typhoons.
Though the flood is subsiding, the organized Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) Teams of 501st Brigade are on the ground to give aid to the Local Government Units (LGUs), National Government Agencies and other Rescue Teams in distributing relief assistance to the flood-affected families.
The 77th Infantry Battalion distributed 882 family food packs for the evacuees at Barangay Sanja, Aparri, Cagayan. The troops also distributed 300 family food packs at Barangay Linao Norte, one of the hardly affected barangays in Tuguegarao City. They have also conducted relief operations for the flood-affected families in Barangay Casicallan Sur, Gattaran, and rescued a missing person at Barangay Piňa West in the same municipality.
The Do or Die Startroopers of 17th Infantry Battalion also conducted relief operations in Barangays Callao Sur, Callao Norte, Finugo and Minanga all of Lasam with 750 beneficiaries. While in Barangay Linao Norte, Tuguegarao City, 300 families were given family food packs. They also distributed 21 relief goods at Barangays Baybayog and San Esteban, Alcala.
While the Disaster Response Team of Marine Battalion Landing Team 10 together with the Aparri Municipal Police Station and rescue teams of the said Local Government Unit distributed 400 food packs to 400 families of Brgy Bisagu, Aparri.
Furthermore, the HADR Teams of 5ID Headquarters have distributed 1,050 relief packs in the barangays of San Vicente, Column 1, Antagan, Calinawan, Calanigan Sur, Bagabag and Culalabu all of Sto. Tomas, Isabela.
The HADR teams are still prepositioned to extend help to the residents who are affected by the calamity.
MGen Laurence E Mina PA, Commander of 5th Infantry Division proceeded in Tuguegarao City to personally supervise the HADR operations conducted by the Startroopers who are in the area since day one.
