CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela- Former members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and some soldiers who were once members of the Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CPLA) lead in a Tree Planting Activity to celebrate the National Peace Consciousness Month with a theme “Healing as one nation, recovering as a better generation,” on September 13, 2021 at the Indigenous Peoples Village, inside camp.
Alyas “RED” former Front Secretary of the East Committee, Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan led the other Former Rebels (FR) to include two former members of the First National Battalion of the CTG in the said event to affirm their full support in the Whole of Nation Approach of the Government to end the local communist armed conflict. Similarly, about 20 integrated soldiers who are products of the peace agreement between the National Government and the CPLA also joined in the said event.
To recall on this date in 1986, the CPLA led by Fr. Conrado Balweg agreed to the call of the National Government under former President Corazon Aquino to forge a “Sipat” or the peace agreement at the Mount Data Hotel in Bauko, Mountain Province. The Sipat was the first culture-based peace agreement in the country and one of the most successful agreements in the world.
MGen. Laurence E Mina, Commander of 5th Infantry Division emphasized in his message the importance of the celebration as a showcase of commitment to the national objective of achieving genuine peace and prosperity for all. “All I wish is to see our people working together towards the common goal of peace and development, where no one is left behind. The peace that we will let our children and the coming generations have.”
