Election season kicks off as simultaneous checkpoint ops launched

CLAVERIA, MISAMIS ORIENTAL – The 58th Infantry “Dimalulupig” Battalion (58IB), in collaboration with the Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office and COMELEC Misamis Oriental, officially signaled the start of the election campaign on January 9, 2021, by conducting a Nationwide Simultaneous Checkpoint Operation.

The activity is in accordance with COMELEC Resolution No.10728, which includes the rules and regulations governing the prohibition on the carrying, carrying, and transportation of firearms during the election period of 09 January 2022 to 08 June 2022, in order to ensure safe, secure, and fair National and Local Elections 2022.

Troops from 58IB have officially begun their election duty and have joined the simultaneous checkpoint operation in their area of operation, which includes the entire provinces of Eastern Misamis Oriental, Malitbog, Bukidnon, and Camiguin.

A short program was held at Balingasag to formally launch the election campaign, with heads of offices in attendance. PCOL Raniel M Valones, Provincial Director, PPO-MisOr, Lt Col Ricky L Canatoy, Commanding Officer, 58IB, Atty. Carlito L Ravelo, Provincial Election Supervisor, Jose R Bascon I, Balingasag Election Officer, and Hon. Adonis Gai Ramon, Municipal Councilor, who represented Hon. Alexis Quina, Municipal Mayor, attended the activity. Each head of office delivered a message, and the PNP provided a lecture and briefing for the implementors of checkpoint operations.

COMELEC mentioned the reason thereof for conducting checkpoint in different municipalities, “Gun ban will be implemented so that vote buying will be prevented. This is a tedious task for us. It’s a collaborated effort of the AFP, PNP, and COMELEC. This is defintely not one man show, but a collaboration, so as to achieve an honest, orderly, and peaceful election.”

Meanwhile, Lt. Col Canatoy, stated, “This checkpoint will not only focus on the gun ban, but also on the other election policies that we will implement. On the part of the Army, this will also contribute to our anti-insurgency campaign, similar to the Covid checkpoints, and I am confident that these operations will be fruitful. I am grateful to our partners, particularly the PNP, for allowing us to focus on our anti-insurgency campaign, as they do their part efficiently and effectively, particularly in urban areas. The PNP is also very helpful in legal matters, always assisting us in the arrest process and then greatly contributing during the conduct of Focused Military Operations. And now, I assure Atty Ravelo that we will deliver and give our all in carrying out our responsibilities and providing service to the people. Maasahan niyo ang PNP at AFP sa pag conduct natin ng checkpoint and other operations to support the COMELEC in ensuring that there will be an honest, orderly, and peaceful election in the province of Misamis Oriental.

Finally, PCOL Raniel M Valones left a reminder for all.
