Diamond troopers donates 120,000 cc of blood to save lives


CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – In view of the week-long celebration for the 50th founding anniversary of this command, the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, Philippine Army conducted bloodletting activity with the theme, “Dugo ko, Kinabuhi mo” in partnership with Philippine Red Cross-Cagayan de Oro City chapter at the Division Club House on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

The activity successfully generated a total of 120,000 cc of different blood types from 265 volunteers coming from the officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employees of 4ID and other civilian stakeholders in Cagayan de Oro City.

This noble activity aims to promote healthy life practice, create public awareness on the importance of blood donation and more importantly is saving thousands of people’s lives in the region.

Colonel Noel Z Plaza, the Assistant Division Commander for Reservist and Retirees Affairs of 4ID who is the oldest blood donor shared his experience, “I am a regular blood donor, at my age of 54 years I was able to maintain a healthy body. The blood I donated will surely save a single life here in our region.

Meanwhile, MGen Franco Nemesio Gacal, the Commander of 4ID said, “My commendation goes to all the troops and civilians who voluntarily donated blood and to the members of the Philippine Red Cross Cagayan de Oro chapter. Indeed, this noble activity will not only save people’s lives in Region 10 but in the entire country who is in dire need of blood.”

“The bloodletting activity is an integral part of our 50th founding anniversary, this is to show that your diamond troopers are more than willing to protect and serve the people in its AOR thru blood donation just to save lives. I also encourage everyone to support this kind of activity for a better living and saving others’ life,” Gacal ended.
