CPP NPA Terrorist Died in an Encounter with Government Troops in Agusan del Sur

Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur – A member of CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) in Agusan del Sur died in a recent encounter with the government troops in Barangay Magsaysay, Prosperidad, Agusan Del Sur at around 3:35 PM yesterday, 15 March 2019.

Prior to the incident, soldiers of 3rd Special Forces Battalion under 401st Brigade conducted security operations in the area to check the reported presence of the CNTs conducting extortion activities to the populace ahead of NPA anniversary on March 29.

While approaching the CNT’s location a firefight ensued for about 10 minutes after which the enemy scampered in different directions leaving behind their dead comrades. The dead NPA was not yet identified as of press time. Seized from the encounter site were one (1) M14 rifle and one (1) bandoleer with two (2) magazines of 7.62 mm ammunition.

Lieutenant Colonel Joey Baybayan, Commanding Officer of 3rd Special Forces Battalion extends deepest sympathies to the families of the dead Communist NPA Terrorist while reiterating his call for the remaining members to avail of the government’s Enhanced
Comprehensive Local Integration Program before it’s too late. Baybayan added that they will turn-over the dead NPA to local officials for proper identification and disposition.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Andres C Centino, Commander of 401st Brigade commends the local populace for reporting the CNT’s activities in the area. He also encourage everybody to remain vigilant and report any activities of these terrorists to the nearest AFP or PNP units in order to prevent them from conducting atrocities against the
people especially that the NPA anniversary on March 29 is fast approaching.

“With the help of the people, local officials and other peace stakeholders we will be able to prevent
the Communist NPA Terrorists from conducting atrocities against our people. Let us therefore, continue to work together to defeat these terrorists so that we will be able to achieve a lasting peace and resilient communities conducive to development”, said Centino.
