CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana met here this morning (January 03, 2019) with the officials of 6th Infantry Division, Cotabato City PNP and Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) to discuss updates on the recent Cotabato City mall bombing last December 31, 2018.
The bombing left two persons dead and 34 others injured in front of South Seas Mall at around 1:49 in the afternoon placed at the sidewalk vendors near the entrance.
The meeting was attended by OPAPP Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr., OPAPP Assistant Secretary Dickson P. Hermoso, Western Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Arnel B. Dela Vega, 6th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana, Cotabato City Police Director Police Senior Superintendent Rolly S. Octavio, Task Force “Kutawato” Commander Col Wilbur C Mamawag, and 5th Special Forces Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Eros James N. Uri.
During the meeting, the military and police officials gave updates on the recent bombing and possible motives of the attack. The police also discussed that the incident was still under thorough investigation and are under verification of the two possible suspects.
It was found out that the bomb was made of a plastic container with improvised electric blasting cap, 9-volt battery and concrete nails attached to a cellphone with sim card.
Secretary Lorenzana also met with Cotabato City Mayor Atty. Cynthia Frances Sayadi-Guiani, Maguindanao 1st District Representative Congresswoman Bai Sandra Sema, and Moro Islamic Liberation Front Chief of Staff Sammy Al-Manzor Gambar, the former solicited the support and cooperation of the latter to achieve a peaceful and worry – free plebiscite and midterm election.
