CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – The Joint Task Force Central, PNP-Maguindanao and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) convened this morning, May 9, 2019, to check the final preparations in order to ensure a peaceful, secure and orderly Midterm National and Local Election this coming May 13, 2019.
In the final meeting, the police and the military presented the latest deployment plan of the government troops and security landscape to address possible threats in Maguindanao before, during and after the election period.
Brig General Cirilito E. Sobejana, Commander of Joint Task Force Central, said that the security forces came-up with a comprehensive security plan in collaboration with the COMELEC with regard to the current political and threat situation in the area of responsibility. This is to ensure free, honest, peaceful, secure, orderly and credible conduct of National and Local Elections 2019.
“We should anticipate any challenge that we may encounter and we should be resilient to any change that might occur during the exercise of electoral process,” Maj. Gen Sobejana said.
“I also urged the troops to be constantly committed and keep the focus on what we are doing. We need the cooperation and support of everyone and closely work with our partners in this coming election especially the election supervisors of the different municipalities,” the Commander added.
As the Commander of Joint Task Force Central, Maj Gen. Sobejana reiterated his general guidance and motherhood statement which is to provide a democratic space and let democracy work. He added that the full cooperation of everybody is the gateway for the succesful election.
Last May 3 (Friday), the Joint Task Force Central, PNP-Maguindanao and the COMELEC conducted a coordinating meeting to iron-out possible glitches in the preparations.
On the part of the military, the troops were already deployed yesterday at their respective areas ahead of the Election Day.
