CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan De Oro City – The joint checkpoint operations by COMELEC 10 & 13, PNP’s PRO 10 and 13, and the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army, caught election violators with illegal firearms yesterday, May 8, 2022.
Around 8:00 AM, May 8, 2022, the 16th Infantry Battalion with Malitbog Municipal Police Station (MPS) apprehended two (2) personalities, onboard a Brown Nissan Navarra, carrying three (3) high-powered firearms (2 X15 Cal 223 Bushmaster Rifles, 1 R4 Rifle) and seven (7) low-powered firearms (5 Cal. 45 Pistols and 2 Shotguns) with assorted ammunitions at Sitio Impahanong, Brgy San Luis, Malitbog, Bukidnon.
Meanwhile, at around 7:45 PM, May 8, 2022, the 30th Infantry Battalion and Malimono MPS Mobile Patrol also intercepted three (3) armed personalities onboard three (3) vehicles at Brgy Binucaran, Malimono, Surigao del Norte, which resulted to the capture of three (3) AR15 Rifles, one (1) Caliber .45 Pistol, one (1) 9mm Pistol with assorted magazines and ammunitions.
On the other hand, the 58th Infantry Battalion, in collaboration with the Villanueva MPS, acting on a prior harassment incident at around 11:00 PM, May 8, 2022, in Brgy Look, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, apprehended five (5) personalities including two (2) soldiers onboard a vehicle at Brgy Katipunan, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. Said personalities will be charged in court with grave threats, robbery, violation of RA10591, and COMELEC gun ban violation.
“The goal is have a zero incident as much as possible and this can only happen if efforts to keep in check potential violators are intensified. So, while election officers were busy yesterday transporting VCMs from the distribution point to the polling centers, we did our share of taking care of things to minimize disruptions.” 4ID Commander Maj. Gen. Wilbur Mamawag said after possible election spoilers were rounded up in a joint checkpoint operations. We will not allow any group or individuals to undermine the elections as we do not condone any of our personnel involved in partisan activities. Hence, the AFP and PNP will continue to work hard to safeguard the ballots, protect the voting public in order to usher this electoral process to its peaceful conclusion.” Maj. Gen. Mamawag added.
