FORT MAGSAYSAY, NUEVA ECIJA – Two female rebels in the custody of the Crime Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Nueva Ecija since their arrest last October 13, 2018 were finally reunited with their families.
Elaine Edzel Emocling aka George and Rachel Galario aka Rose were two of the arrested female rebels in Rizal, Nueva Ecija last Saturday.
It was revealed during the investigation that Rachel Galario, 20 years old and a resident of Butuan City, is a new mother and just gave birth to her one month old baby.
Galario was recruited on 2013 at the age of 15. She joined the armed group in 2015 and operated at Agusan del Sur. In October 2017, she was transported, together with several others, to Luzon particularly in Nueva Ecija to conduct training and recruitment. She was the platoon medic of the group. She got pregnant during her stay in the armed group and went down the mountains to give birth last September. She was about to go back to their group when they were arrested in Rizal, Nueva Ecija though she already expressed her intent to leave the armed struggle to take care of her child.
Elaine Edzel Emocling, is 23 years old. She is a former student of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP). She disappeared for 6 months with her parents assuming she was just busy at school. Yesterday was her first time to see them again. Emocling was enticed to join the League of Filipino Students (LFS) in rallies back in July 2014 when PUP planned a tuition fee hike. From then on, she has been in and out of the organization. From January to May of 2016, she laid low in activism and attempted to become a regular student of PUP. However, she was enticed again to join demonstrations and rallies. The cycle repeated in 2017 until she formally joined an NPA unit by June 2018.
It can be considered a stroke of luck that Emocling and her comrades were caught on October 13 as they always had doubts when they joined the NPA but did not have the courage to resist.
Now that they are back with their family and has experienced firsthand a life of difficulty in the mountains, they hope to be able to finish their studies and live in peace.
Major General Felimon T Santos Jr AFP, Commander, 7ID said that the military commits to reunite families who were separated by the deceptive Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs). He also said that their has now become a form of rescue since Emocling and Galario were already contemplating to leave the armed group. MGen Santos gave assurance that 7ID will help Rachel Galario and Elaine Emocling to live normal lives.
