Bomb blast hurt civilians in Cotabato City


AMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – A loud explosion transpired in front of the South Seas Mall along Magallanes St., Cotabato City at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon on December 31, 2018.

Troops immediately secured the blast site and conducted road clearing to secure motorists passing in the area.

Witnesses said that one unidentified male person left a package which a few seconds later exploded near the fire crackers vendors.

Accordingly, 28 civilians were wounded and rush to different nearest hospitals for medical treatment and 2 were dead on arrival.

“Joint investigation by AFP and PNP is on going to determine the identity of the perpetrator, but we are not discounting the possibility that the DAESH Inspired group was responsible in the said bombing as they suffered casualties during our recent security operations against this terror group in the Liguasan area.” Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, Commander, 6ID said.

“We condemn the barbaric and inhuman bombing attack of this peace spoiler as it is a manifestations of them being desperate to harm civilian people.”

“Security is everybody’s concern, and I strongly urge the civilian community to be on high alert at all times and to immediately report any suspicious things or person to the authorities to prevent the terrorists from sowing terror,” Major General Sobejana added.
