BIFF Commander killed in a clash with the security forces

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – Two people lay dead and 2 high powered firearms were recovered after a 30-minute firefight between the security forces and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Sitio Macantal, Brgy Olandang, Midsayap, North Cotabato on April 20, 2019.

Combined troops of 34th Infantry Battalion and Midsayap Municipal Police Station were serving warrant of arrest when they were fired upon by heavily armed men under Mando Mamalompong @ DM, that ensued a heavy exchange of fires.

“The terrorist group were ready to confront the security forces, as they were occupying fortified positions,” said Ltc Glenn Loreto T. Caballero, Commanding Officer, 34th Infantry Battalion.

Two bodies of killed terrorists recovered at the scene were indentified as certain Mando Mamalompong @ DM, BIFF 2nd Division Commander and a spokesperson under Karialan faction and Nur Hamid Sabdulla @ Tong.

The security forces also seized one M16 rifle, one M14 rifle and assorted magazines and ammunition.

On the other hand, one gallant soldier was slightly wounded during the course of intense firefight.

“The succesful operation is attributed to the information shared by the local residents who did not want terrorists’ presence in their area,” said 602nd Brigade Commander Brigadier General Alfredo V. Rosario.

“The 6th Infantry Division is doing its best to defeat the enemy with your full cooperation and support,” said Major General Cirilito E Sobejana, Commander 6th Infantry Division.

“The entire community is hoping that this menace of society will come to an end and that peace and development will push unhampered,” the Commander added.
