Tago, Surigao del Sur – the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Carmen, Surigao del Sur conducted IP Summit 2018 at Sitio Gacub, Brgy Hinapuyan, Carmen, Surigao del Sur at 8 o’clock in the morning, Thursday, November 29, 2018.
The LGU of Carmen with other local agencies spearheaded by Hon Teopila G Cabatuan, Municipal Vice-Mayor of same town and the 36IB Valor troopers led by Lt Col Xerxes A Trinidad PA, Commanding Officer, visited the Sitio Gacub, a far flung brgy and a conflict stricken area frequented by the CPP-NPA Terrorist in the past years.
More than 600 IP residents coming from IP communities in Sitios Canaan, Togopon and Tabinas of same Brgy availed the basic services such as Medical Consultation and Awareness on HIV and Family Planning and Bloodletting brought by the convergence of Local and National agencies as part of the whole IP summit activity.
Likewise, the summit was able to distribute more than 600 items for the IP beneficiaries consists of Pale, Jerry Cans, Plastic Hygiene Kit, Pouches, Buntis and Children’s Kit.
The IP Summit on its 2nd time was a local government initiative of Hon Jane V Plaza, Municipal Mayor of same town anchored on giving prime importance to the IP communities as one of the most vulnerable sector of the society being recruited and exploited by the CNT’s. A government intervention thru the delivery of basic services, information education campaign and community dialogues to address peace and security issues.
Hon. Cabatuan lauded the efforts of the convergence and assured the IP’s present during the summit that it will continue in order to attain a peaceful and developed communities in their municipality.
In his statement, Lt Col Xerxes A Trinidad PA, Commanding Officer of the 36IB, said “first of all, we would like to give our sincerest gratitude and congratulations to the leadership of Mayor Jane V Plaza in heeding the IPs concern in her municipality. It is very commendable that the civilian sector, the Local Government Unit of Carmen in particular addresses one of the many root causes of the insurgency problem particularly in IP communities. It is thru convergence that we could eliminate hindrances for peace and development as PEACE is not the sole responsibility of the army but it is shared by everyone.”
“In line with the Army’s Community Support Program, rest assured that the commitment and support to the LGU particularly in addressing the IP issues and concerns will not waiver until we succeed in defeating the enemy. Sitio Gacub of Brgy Hinapuyan is a home to IP brothers and sisters, a once conflict stricken area and now because of people’s united effort and support, we were able to uphold peace and security in the area. We call on to all people that we continue to unite and prevent the CPP-NPA Terrorist and allied left leaning organizations in destroying our children’s future and disrupt our peaceful way of life”, Lt Col Trinidad added.
