TAGO, Surigao del Sur, July 14 – Army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion (IB) sends troops to help victims of the earthquake that rocked the town of Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen, Lanuza (CarCanMadCarLan) and Cortez all of Surigao del Sur yesterday, July 13 2019 at 4:42 early in the morning.

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur and its neighbouring provinces early morning that caused panic and distraction to the said towns. The epicenter was located at 8kms Northwest of Cortes.

In a statement of LTC Xerxes Trinidad, Commander, 36IB said the army, particularly the 36IB quickly organized its Disaster Response Team (DRT) to help victims of the devastating earthquake that rocked the province and its towns.

“As a partner in addressing the peace and security in the province, it is also our mandate to serve and protect the people in any calamities and natural disaster. We will find ways to help and rescue the peace-loving Surigaonons,” Ltc Trinidad said.

He stressed to the victims to be resilient at all times and reach out to the government and security forces in times of need.

“Your army will always be at your service anytime, we will be deploying our troops to any point in the province. It is our sincere gesture to reach out to the victims and monitor the damaged caused by the earthquake.” He added.

Initial reports confirmed that at least 42 people have been injured, 206 households and 46 establishments have been damaged in the province. Damage assessment by the respective MDRRMCs are still ongoing. (1Lt Jonald Romorosa, CMO, 36IB, PA).
