FORT MAGSAYSAY, NUEVA ECIJA – Commanding General Philippine Army, Lt Gen Macairog Alberto acted as ‘Ninong’ to Rowena together with other top leadership of 7th Infantry Division in a simple christening ceremony today. Rowena is the daughter of an NPA couple who surrendered separately to 7ID units in recent months.
The couple last saw each other 8 months ago after they were separated by their NPA commanders. “Rose” was initially captured in Rizal, Nueva Ecija together with 3 other amazonas. She has since expressed her desire to surrender and be with her daughter. “Allan” escaped from his group after an encounter and then surrendered to authorities. The two were unaware of the whereabouts of each other until they were reunited for the christening of their daughter by the Army units they once fought against.
The two were NPAs originally from Mindanao. They were brought to Luzon to join the local NPA group here. They got married in the NPA as a party couple. When”Rose” got pregnant, she was sent to a relative of her husband until she delivered her daughter. A month after giving birth, she was set to go back to the NPA and leave her daughter behind with relatives. She was captured on her way back to the NPA group.
“Allan”was involved in several encounters against government forces. Wanting to surrender, he escaped from his group walking from Alfonso Castañeda town to Bongabon for one week until he reached the authorities and formalized his surrender.
In his speech, Maj Gen Filemon Santos, 7ID Commander made an appeal to other rebels to lay down their arms and be with their loved ones this Christmas.
“I am so touched with their reunion and delighted that their little girl will live a normal life and grow up in a normal society. Finally, her parents are together and they will celebrate the Yuletide Season as a family,” he added. (Kalinaw News/AFC).
