Tago, Surigao del Sur –In close collaboration with other stakeholders, troops of the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion and Police Provincial Office of Surigao del Sur initiated a Community Outreach Program for Peace around 8 o’clock in the morning today, October 11, 2018 held at Brgy Covered Court, Maitom,Tandag City, Surigao Del Sur.
An estimated total of two – hundred (200) families with more or less four – hundred fifty (450) residents of Brgy Maitom mostly coming from the IP Community in Sitio’s Mahanon, Poog and Banahaw benefited the outreach program.
Services offered during the community outreach are Medical and Dental Consultation and Treatment; Bloodletting; Distribution of Medicines, GMA Kapuso Foundation Backpacks with complete set of Schools Supplies, Gift Packs and Eye Glasses;Free Haircuts and Porridge Feeding.
Said activity was highlighted with the presence of PCSUPT GILBERTO D CRUZ, Regional Director of PRO13 spear heading the program in partnership with the 36IB headed by LT COL XERXES A TRINIDAD PA, Commanding Officer, PSSUPT FRANCISCO D DUNGO JR, Provincial Director of PPO SDS and the LGU of Tandag City, HON ALEXANDER T PIMENTEL, City Mayor.
“The Program for Peace was initiated purposely for the benefit of the IP brothers and sisters which is the most vulnerable sector from exploitation and manipulation by the CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT). Our intent is to give hope and make them feel that the government and other stakeholders are looking after them and committed to pursue peace and development efforts in their community”, Lt Colonel Xerxes A Trinidad PA, Commanding Officer of 36IB said.
Other agencies and stakeholders supporting the Program for Peace were Local Government Unit of Tandag City, Provincial Health Office SDS, TESDA SDS, LTO Tandag City, PDRRMC, APO Alumni Association, Red Cross SDS Chapter, Rotary Club of Central Tandag, Tandag Linungao Eagles Club, Mason Tandag Lodge, PIA SDS and Media Partners (Sure FM, Real FM, TNTV6.
PSSUPT DUNGO in his statement said, “The PNP have been always the partner of the Philippine Army in the fight against insurgency. With this program highlighted by the visit of the RD CARAGA, we have manifested a convergence of efforts that could address problems which brought span of a lifetime of suffering and injustices. It’s high time that we stand side by side and unite our efforts to implement programs and sustain the delivery of basic services to the people”.
“If this kind of convergence shall be focused targeting those conflict affected areas and can be sustained, people will be satisfied and would never think of joining any groups that destabilises the peace and development for their communities. This in line with the AFPs Community Support Program (CSP) facilitating convergence with other stakeholders to have a conflict resilient communities in order to contribute to the attainment of just and lasting peace in the province”, Lt Col Trinidad added.
