CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan Zamboanga del Sur – The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division together with the local government unit of Pagadi-an city and other stakeholders commemorated the 77th Araw ng Kagitingan in Veterans Memorial Shrine, Pagadi-an city, 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
The occasion is a yearly activity that aims to reflect how the Filipino soldiers fought with the Americans against the Japanese invaders in 1942 during World War 2 that also left mark in our history on how courageous the Filipino Fighters were during those era.
The 77th Araw ng Kagitingan is themed “Pamanang Kalayaan ng mga Beterano; Isabuhay at Pagyamanin ng lahing Pilipino”.
Mr. Claudio F. Porio, District President of the 1st Zamboanga del Sur Veterans, said in his speech that “Indeed, Araw ng Kagitingan should be a very important event for every Filipino, because, it reminds us of our duty to fight the liberty of our country against invaders.”
He also recognized and valued those who have done heroic acts but are never renowned.
Different stakeholders such as, Knights of Columbus, Senior Citizens, Veterans Federation of the Philippines, Mason, Illana Bay Lodge, Order of DeMolay, Recon Lakandula Rotary Club, Order of Amaranth, Fraternal Order of Eagles, BFP, PNP, DEPED and DILG also graced the event.
“Past battles and hostilities are not intended to become plain pages of the past, but rather, unforgettable lessons for all of us and for all the Filipino nation to learn from”, said Hon. Marlyn Revelo, the Board Member 1st District, Zamboanga del Sur.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Roberto T. Ancan, 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division Commander, represented by Brig. Gen. Jacinto Bareng, the Assistant Division Commander for Operation during his speech, reminded everyone that all Filipinos are capable of tremendous feats of heroism.
“Let this celebration be a beacon for all to have courage in the midst of challenges and uncertainties”, he added.
“It is our responsibility to maintain the peace not for the victims in the past, but for the present and future and for the rest of our brothers and sisters across the globe”, he concluded.
