Camp Osito D. Bahian -The Local Government Units of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental in collaboration with the 403rd Infantry “Peacemaker” Brigade of the Army, convened a two (2) – day Regional Youth Leadership Summit from December 16-17, 2018 for the youth leaders at Amaya View, Cagayan de Oro City.

The Regional YLS with the theme, “Filipino Youth; Future Leaders of the Country”, aims to empower the youth by leveling up their leadership potentials for active participation in nation building. The two-day summit was attended by 14 participants from Bukidnon and 66 participants from Misamis Oriental. The activity was supported by the Local Government Units of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental and the Office of the 1st District Representative of Misamis Oriental being the
regular partner of the Army in honing the leadership potentials of the youth.

The youth leadership summit seeks to promote inclusive youth participation in spreading the culture of peace among the communities that became vulnerable to radicalization and violent extremisms. During the event, the participants were made to understand their vital role in national transformation; the various government programs for the youth; the prevailing issues and challenges that they may face; and how they could cope with the challenges as they embark on their journey towards becoming community leaders for peace building.

Congressman Peter Unabia of the 1 st district of Misamis Oriental, as the Keynote Speaker, challenged the participants to plan for their future and cited that people have equal opportunity to achieve his/her goals in life. He shared his youth experiences and said: “I was still young when my father died. Despite the hardships in life, I was able to complete my studies. I thank the Lord for his grace and power as I share this grace to you. We in the government perform our roles as public servants. My question is, what would you do for our country in return? Before, I was not aware of any government program for the youth, I am not aware of any business sector program for the youth, I am not aware that the Philippine Army has this kind of program. You are so lucky now that in your generation, there are so many programs being offered to make you better leaders of the community. All of us have the responsibility to help each other for unity and peace. Let us help each other for the peace and prosperity of Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro and elsewhere”.

COL EDGARDO Y DE LEON INF (GSC) PA, Commander, 403rd Infantry “Peacemaker” Brigade, in his inspirational message, highlighted the need for the youth to be involved in the community. He said: “Filipinos have a very strong sense of family. Family first before anything else. We tend to forget that we are part of a bigger community. Each and every one of us is part of the community.

In the middle of the COMMUNITY is “u” which means without “u” the community will not be complete. And each and everyone of you have the responsibility to build a strong sense of Community for the Filipinos. A community where people are at peace and helping each other for our communities to progress”.
