ARAKAN, Cotabato — Nearly 500 constituents of Barangay Datu Ladayon declared the members of New People’s Army (NPA) as ‘persona non-grata’ in their village.
They made the declaration during the Peace Rally on Friday morning, December 7, 2018. They also paraded around the village holding banners denouncing the different atrocities of the New People’s Army.
Lt. Col. Ehrlich Noel Paraso, Commanding Officer of 19 th Infantry Battalion said the Peace Rally was initiated by the local officials who finally spoke out against the NPA’s abuses, exploitation, extortion, and murdering of innocent civilians in the area.
“This initiative of the local officials and residents of Barangay Datu Ladayon will certainly give the NPA a very hard time in trying to recover their former lairs in Arakan Valley Complex. Their deceptive strategies will surely never work in this village anymore”, Paraso said.
Datu Ladayon was the first village of Arakan who formally and bravely turn against the New People’s Army, after several years of being one of the communist terrorists’ lairs in Arakan Valley Complex.
Councilors Josie Nasiluan and Romulo Tapgos who represented Mayor Rene Rubino during the event, commend the local officials and residents of Barangay Datu Ladayon. The duo said they will push the passing of a municipal resolution to support the declaration made by the said barangay.
The Mindanao Peace Council (MPC) headed by Mrs. Hope Fernandez also expressed support to Barangay Datu Ladayon, and other barangays who will answer the government’s call for peace.
