LAGANGILANG, Abra- Two (2) members of the Militia ng Bayan (MB) surrendered to Army’s 24th Infantry (WILDCAT) Battalion, at its headquarters in Sto. Barbarit, Brgy Tagodtod, Lagangilang, here, January 31.
The real names of the two were temporarily withheld for security reasons pending the processing of their status.
The WILDCAT Troopers once proved again its relentless efforts in bringing peace to the people of Abra through successful operations encouraged the two MB to cooperate with the Army.
The two (2) MB, both from Tubo, Abra, utilized by CTG operating in the Tri-boundaries of Abra, Ilocos Sur and Mt Province surrendered with two (2) Garand Rifles and two (2) claymore mines.
The strong advertisement and publication of E-CLIP through radio programs and leaflets played an important role in informing them of the government’s sincerity to end the war against CPP-NPA-NDF. As one of the MB said , “Nong narinig ko sa radyo na totoo po pala ang E-CLIP at nakatanggap na ng mga benepisyo ang mga bumabang kasamahan namin, nagdesisyon na rin po akong bumaba at sumuko.” (When I heard the news over the radio about the E-CLIP program that it is real and benefited our former fellow rebels who surrendered, I decided to go down also and surrender.)
Meanwhile, BGen Lenard T Agustin AFP, 7th Infantry Division Acting-Commander said, “Despite of the obstacles and challenges, we must continue on our efforts in ushering lasting peace and true development in our area of responsibility by delivering the government programs and services especially to these misguided people.”
“NPAs have no more will to fight and devoid of ideology. Induce more surrenderees in order for a massive development to set in, ” said BGen Henry A Robinson Jr AFP, 702nd Brigade Commander.
Lt Col Jearie Boy P Faminial, 24th Infantry Battalion Commander, also gave emphasis on helping and assisting the former rebels in their journey to a new life saying , “NPA rebels are also victims of false ideology, let us always open the avenues and communications in sustaining programs for them and for the people’s well-being. Every rebel who surrenders will be fully supported and secured.”
