The Ceremonial Handover of Donation was attended by The Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ramon Antonio A Lim, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations Major General Edgardo De Leon.
The private donor, Mr. Guevarra is a Commodore in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the External Affairs Committee, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industries Incorporated (FFCCCII) where he earned his reputation as “action man of the Chinese-Filipino community”.
Mr. Guevarra is known for his contributions to the community especially during this time of pandemic. He has organized various donation drives and packing operations to aid those in need, particularly those at the frontlines. The AFP was chosen to be the recipient of his individual donation due to the organization’s key role in the battle against COVID-19 while securing peace.
With the extension of the General Community Quarantine in Metro Manila, the donation is a great boost to augment the need for Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) supplies. It will definitely aid the AFP medical personnel who will be tasked to man the largest quarantine facility which was recently inaugurated in Parañaque. Part of the donation will be used by the military personnel who will be deployed in the Mega Quarantine Facility with 525-bed capacity.
“The AFP is immensely grateful to Mr. Nelson Guevarra and other individuals who made this donation possible. His benevolence means a lot to our men and women in uniform who draw strength from the people’s trust and support. As the nation continues to fight COVID-19, let our unity be one of our strongest weapons in defeating this unforeseen enemy,” Lieutenant General Lim said.
