BALER, Aurora – In the conduct of a strengthened Community Support Program (CSP), the 91st Infantry “Sinagtala” Battalion (91IB), while providing manpower assistance in the construction of a septic tank for public comfort rooms at Barangay Bazal, Maria Aurora, Aurora, discvored several rounds of ammunition on June 14, 2020.

Exactly six rounds of 60mm mortar ammunition and one 40mm GL ammunition were recovered from the site as the 91IB troops dug wider in the said area.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Aurora Police Provincial Office (APPO) arrived after troops the immediately coordinated with the Maria Aurora Municipal Police Station to report the find. The EOD team then handled the discovered ammunition for proper disposal.

“I commend the 91IB for the services they extended to the people of Aurora and parts of Nueva Ecija, to ensure the safety of the general public,” said Colonel Andrew D. Costelo, Commander of the 703rd Infantry (Agila) Brigade. He further said that if regular workers discovered the ammunition, they might not know how to properly handle it and might inadvertently cause harm to their selves.

Lieutenant Colonel Reandrew P. Rubio, Commanding Officer of the 91IB, explained that there was an ongoing Community Support Program (CSP) being conducted by their unit in Maria Aurora, and part of the CSP is to help the community in the construction of any public facility that would be beneficial to the residents. “I would like express my heartfelt gratitude to the local residents of Aurora for the support and cooperation they have shown especially on our efforts for peace and order, and for helping us combat this COVID-19 disease,” added Lt. Col. Rubio.
