Camp Leon Kilat, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental. The 94th Infantry (Mandirigma) Battalion praises the directive of Gov Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental for the Philippine Army and PNP forces to immediately address the insurgency problem of the province and to push the NPA out of the province. Lt Col Randy Pagunuran, Commander of 94th IB, said that they have taken note of the governor’s call and will double their efforts together with the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO), to hasten the defeat of the CPP-NPA in the province, through a more aggressive combat operations and a more responsive Community Support Program (CSP)/Civil Military Operations in the hinterland barangays of Negros Oriental.
Gov Degamo declared during a Joint Provincial Security Coordinating Center meeting, that he is not joking on his statement that he doesn’t want the insurgents here in the province. Degamo was enraged by the recent atrocities perpetrated by the NPA, like the several liquidations of government officials and innocent civilians, and the burning of heavy equipment used in the construction of roads in the province’s hinterland barangays. He enjoined the people of the province, local chief executives, the government’s security forces to fight the terrorist group and get them out of the province. “You terrorists have no place in Negros Oriental. We are a peace-loving people”, Degamo further said.
The 15-member European Union (EU) has declared the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed group the New People’s Army (NPA) as foreign terrorist groups. This is part of the EU’s effort to comply with the United Nations’ Resolution 1373, which compels themselves in fighting global terrorism. The declaration will greatly diminish the capability of the group to conduct terroristic activities in the country, since this will cut of any funds and other support coming from the EU member states.
The CPP-NPA has been sowing terror for decades and have affected the growth of development in Negros Oriental. This terrorist group have admitted already to several liquidation of government officials, members of the AFP and PNP, and several innocent civilians in Guihulngan City, NOR. They have also disrupted economic development and affected the construction of several infrastructure projects by burning construction equipment and extorting money in the guise of revolutionary taxes to government contractors all over the province. The economic development in the province of Negros Oriental will only continue if the terrorist group CPP-NPA will be vanquished and driven out of the province. This will only be possible if there is a concerted effort among the Local Government Units, Philippine Army, PNP and the people of Negros Oriental to work together and finally end the menace of the CPP-NPA.
