Mawab, Compostela Valley – The Army’s 71st Infantry (Kaibigan) Battalion joined the Philippine National Police (PNP), Commission on Election (COMELEC), and other Law Enforcers in securing the Midterm National Election 2019 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte and unicipalities of Pantukan, Mabini, Maco and Mawab all of Compostela Valley.

Part of the security measures conducted are checkpoint operations at major highways of Tagum City, Davao Del Norte and Mawab and Maco to Pantukan, Compostela Valley Province; visibility patrols in vital areas; deployment of troops in different barangays under election watch list to secure polling precincts; and escorting the transport of ballot boxes together with PNP and COMELEC counterparts.

With intense security measures, no reported significant untoward incidents happened for the whole duration of Election Day based on the reports from PNP and local authorities.

Lieutenant Colonel Esteveyn E Ducusin, Battalion Commander of 71st IB expressed his gratitude for the safe and secured conduct of Midterm Election 2019, “Through our concerted and unified effort, we were able to make the election safe and secured activity. Thank you to the people who are very cooperative, wary and vigilant”, he said.

“I also commend the candidates for doing what they ought during Peace Covenant signing. It is truly evident that we all take our individual responsibilities to create a peaceful and credible election”, Ducusin added.

Prior to election, the COMELEC, Philippine Army, PNP, and other law enforcers conducted several meetings to beef up security measures especially about the transportation plan for VCM and election paraphernalia.

Indeed, the 71st IB will continue the mandate of protecting people and the community through security operations, protection of different developmental projects, supports to law enforcement operations, Development Outreach Programs, and other meaningful activities in partnership with the LGUs, NGAs, NGOs and other partner stakeholders for the benefit of the people.
