CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – The 6th Infantry Division honored here yesterday outgoing Division Sergeant Major SMS Osias C. Cañete with a testimonial parade and review as he retired from military service. SMS Lyfrey H. Bascar assumed the position of 6ID Sergeant Major in a Change of Office Ceremony held here at the Kampilan Grandstand presided over by 6ID Commander Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon.

SMS Cañete bowed out of the service as he reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 on August 06, 2019.

In his speech, SMS Cañete encouraged the Kampilan troopers to embrace change to make the Army better for the future generations.

“Sa lahat ng Kampilan troopers, huwag po tayong magmadaling magretiro because the more na magtatagal tayo sa Philippine Army, the more privileges we will get after retiring,” he said.

Meanwhile, SMS Bascar was the former Battalion Sergeant Major of 38 th Infantry Battalion before being appointed as the new Division Sergeant Major of 6th ID.

“Today, I was given one of the greatest responsibilities of my military career. With humility and steadfast, I accepted this privilege to become the Division Sergeant Major,” SMS Bascar said in his speech.

He also thanked Maj. Gen. Carreon for trusting his ability and capability to lead the Non-Commissioned Officers of the Division.

In his message, Maj. Gen. Carreon thanked SMS Cañete for doing an excellent job and serving the 6ID with utmost dedication and passion as his accomplishments had greatly contributed to the attainment of Command’s mission and goals.

The Commander also congratulated SMS Bascar as successor of SMS Cañete.

“Your service records and accomplishments already speak of your capabilities so I trust you on the welfare and management of our enlisted personnel,” said Maj. Gen. Carreon.

SMS Cañete was the 8th Division Sergeant Major of 6th ID.
