500 Lumads benefit from Community Outreach Program

Headquarters 56th Infantry (TATAG) Battalion, 7ID, PA, Brgy Sto Niño, Talaingod, Davao del Norte – More or less 500 lumad residents (mostly students) benefit from the community outreach program initiated by the 56th Infantry “Tatag” Battalion, held at Lumabag Integrated School, Sitio Lumabag, Brgy Palma Gil of Talaingod, Davao del Norte on Tuesday, 02 July 2019

Around, 300 lumad students thankfully received their backpacks loaded with complete set of school supplies. A meal and a pair of slippers were also given away to the students while about 200 parents were happily accorded with food packs.

“We are here to make you (lumads) feel that the government is working for your good and respecting your culture. We, the soldiers of 56IB are your true soldiers and your friends, whom are your partners in attaining peace,” CPT Dema-ala, Civil-Military Officer 56IB, said.

LTC NORMAN E VALDEZ INF (GSC) PA, Acting Battalion Commander, 56IB emphasized that the Program was initiated purposely for the benefit of the lumad brothers and sisters who are most vulnerable to the exploitation and manipulation of the CPP-NPA Terrorists. He said,
“Our intent is to give hope and inspiration to make them (Lumads) feel that they are not alone, that the government and other stakeholders are looking after them and committed to pursue peace and development efforts in their community,” he added.

Constant cooperation of the local government units and through the continuous support of benevolent partners from the private sector (business) such as the Dalisay family, that was ably represented by Ms Margarette Dalisay, a businesswoman, whom are with us in attaining a common goal in helping the lumads (Indigenous People) as well as the other stakeholders, has led to the success of the outreach activity.
