CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, Philippine Army highlights the yuletide season celebration this year through the ceremonial lighting of its Christmas village and Himig ng Kapayapaan at the Division Headquarters, Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro city last Saturday, December 7, 2019.
Around 15 Christmas village featuring various countries around the world were built along Colonel Rodriguez street to give attraction to this camp. The ceremonial lighting was spearheaded by MGen Gacal at around 7:00 o’clock in the evening last December 7.
Immediately followed was the Himig ng Kapayapaan wherein eight different bands coming from brigades and battalions of this division played a concert at the 4ID grandstand.
Diamond troopers with their families, youths and other stakeholders participated and enjoyed the activities. Guests took photos with the colorful attractions together with their families and friends as souvenir for the great evening.
Meanwhile, the Christmas village attraction to this camp is open for public viewing from 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon until 10:00 o’clock in the evening. Stakeholders are very much welcome to visit the camp but are still subjected to inspections and follow the existing policies and camp regulations.
MGen Franco Nemesio M Gacal, Commander of the 4ID said, “We are more than glad to welcome you all to our humble camp. This camp had been widely opened to the public and the displays and the Christmas villages we have here are the representation of the joyful present we all get to enjoy regardless of faith and religion.
With the sacrifice of our soldiers who are required to render services despite of weekends and holidays, this showcase allows them to commemorate the season closer to home despite the existing distance they have with their families. Christmas isn’t necessarily just a celebration of our faith, but of the message of solidarity and hope,” Gacal ended.
