CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – Determined to put an end to insurgency, the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur has initiated a Peace Dialogue with a theme “Abling Paghisgot Alang sa Kalinaw” last October 21, 2019 at Sitio Simuwao (KM 19), Brgy. Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur.

Governor Alexander Pimentel led the dialogue together with municipal Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR) Datu Jumar Bucalid and provincial IPMR Datu Guinsod and some IP groups. The activity was also attended by Bayan Muna Congressman Carlos Zarate, Representative Eufemia Cullamat and Malahutayong Pakigbisog Alang sa Sumusunod (MAPASU) members.

During the dialogue Cong Zarate and Cullamat aired their sentiments that military personnel should be pulled-out in the area because the residents fear them.

Gov Pimentel during his speech said, “Let us all end insurgency together and I need everyone including our two representatives here from Bayan Muna to fully support the implementation of EO 70. Through this we will be able to bring all the government agencies together and deliver the necessary services as well as facilities you need. I also urge MAPASU to properly register your school to the DepEd for the betterment of your students.” “And if you have complaints with the soldiers, file a case and produce evidences of your claims,” Pimentel added

Maj Gen Franco Nemesio Gacal, Commander of the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, laud the initiative of the Surigao del Sur LGU, “4ID commends Gov Alexander Pimentel along with the significant stakeholders of Surigao del Sur for the successful conduct of the peace dialogue in Lianga. You have shown great determination to end communist insurgency in Surigao Sur. “On the other hand, we assure the public that our soldiers adhere to the provisions of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and respects the rights of the people in following their mandate,” Gacal ended.
