Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan – The 48th Infantry (GUARDIANS) Battalion participated in the tree planting activity at Dam Site of Sitio Tabuating, Brgy Nazareth, General Tinio, Nueva Ecija at 6:00 a.m., today.

5,000 non-fruit bearing seedlings were planted by the troops together with the local government units, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and civilian volunteers headed by Mayor-Elect Engineer Isidro T Pajarillaga of Genral Tinio.

The tree planting event complements the Nationwide Arbor Day Celebration which is commemorated every year on June 25, under the Proclamation No. 643 signed in 2004 which allot a day of tree planting activity each year to contribute in promoting a healthier ecosystem for everyone. Said activity is also part of the National Greening Program (NGP) of the government.

Major General Lenard T Agustin AFP, Commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division commended the efforts of the Guardians Battalion. He also thanked the local government along the NGOs and other volunteers in involving the Army in the tree planting activity.

“The protection of environment and taking care of our mother earth is everybody’s responsibility. We need to take care and protect our environment so our future generation will see the beauty of our God’s creation. We, in 7ID, we are more than willing to give our time and effort in doing activities for the nature as we ourselves also are environment advocates,” said MGen Agustin.

Lieutenant Colonel Felix Emeterio M Valdez, Commanding Officer of 48IB led the troops in the activity. He said, “We are very intentional in endeavours related to the restoration of our environment. Rest assured that this will not end to planting the seedlings but we will make sure that it will grow and nourish so our children will benefit from these.”
