BANCASI, Butuan City – The 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade in Caraga joined the nation in the conduct of the 3rd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) this afternoon, August 08, 2019 held at its Headquarters, Brgy Bancasi this City.
At exactly 2 o’clock this afternoon, personnel of the 402nd Brigade, performed the duck, cover and hold as an initial reaction from an earthquake upon the alarm of the siren which signaled the start of the nationwide earthquake drill.
Likewise, troops portrayed scenarios to showcase the response capabilities and preparedness of the brigade in time of disasters such as an Earthquake. Aside from enhancing operational readiness, the drill also seeks to test the interoperability of every unit under the area of responsibility of the 402nd Brigade stationed in different provinces in Caraga (Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Province).
The NSED in Caraga is a quarterly activity spearheaded by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga purposely to strengthen the mechanism for national and regional coordination as well as interoperability of the key players. It also aims to intensify local communities’ earthquake preparedness and increase the commitment of the local government units in building safe communities.
Col Maurito L Licudine, the 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander said, “We are one with the nation in preparing for the big one especially Caraga being a disaster prone region. We ensure our full commitment along with our manpower and other logistical resources for any eventualities that may arise brought about by man-made and natural disasters or calamities”.
“We are calling every citizen to support and join us in the Quarterly NSED. Let’s take the NSED seriously as our safety during disasters and calamites rest on how we implement our initiatives and develop our preparedness”, Col Licudine added.
The 402nd Brigade as member agency of the Local Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council in Caraga region have participated in the NSED for the 3rd time this year as part of the brigade’s mission to conduct Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) and perform Search and Rescue and Relief and Retrieval operations during disasters and calamities.
