Bancasi, Butuan City – The 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade and its subordinate Battalions in partnership with stakeholders and other government units and agencies simultaneously commemorated the 121st Philippine Independence Day celebration, today Wednesday, 7 o’clock in the morning, June 12, 2019.
This morning, Col Maurito L Licudine, 402nd Brigade Commander, led the AFP troops in Caraga for the commemoration of the 121st Philippine Independence Day in Butuan City with Engr. Ronnie Vicente C Lagnada, Mayor of Butuan City, Hon Lawrence Lemuel H Fortun, Representative of 1st District, Butuan City and Las Nieves held at Guingona Park, Butuan City.
Col Licudine and Mayor Lagnada led the Flag Raising Ceremony followed by a Wreath Laying to commemorate the heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice in order to fight for the Philippine independence.
In this year’s commemoration, Mayor Lagnada underscored the need of Butuanons to take part and be responsible in the transformation of the city and the country as a whole in order to attain its dream while Congressman Fortun emphasized that Filipinos should be proud of what the heroes of the country have fought for and it is essential to emulate their examples by being responsible citizens of the country.
Likewise, Col Cerilo C Balaoro Jr, Deputy Commander of the 402nd Brigade, led the Flag Raising Ceremony in commemorating the Independence Day at Headquarters, 402nd Brigade, Brgy Bancasi, Butuan City. Similarly, the battalions operationally controlled by this Brigade namely the 23IB, 29IB, 30IB and 36IB conducted Flag
Raising Ceremony to commemorate the Independence Day at their respective camps in Buenavista and Cabadbaran, both of Agusan del Norte; Placer, Surigao del Norte; and Tago, Surigao del Sur, respectively.
Meanwhile, Col Maurito L Licudine in his statement said, “Our Independence symbolizes the resilience and gallantry of the Filipino soldiers. They fought brave and hard overcoming greater odds and withstanding superior foes. In this present time, your AFP will continue to fight and preserve the freedom we inherited from our forefathers. We shall ensure that this freedom will not be taken away from us even at the expense of losing our dearest lives”.
“We exhort every Filipinos to stand with us in this trying time to combat the communist insurgency that had retarded the country’s progress for more than 50 years. If we are to continue to live with the freedom we are enjoying, we must hand in hand address this problem now and deliver the best governance to our people”, Col Licudine added.
