2 CAAs avoids death after riding-in-tandem’s failed ambush slay


CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Two members of CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) avoided being shot to death when two riding-in-tandem gunmen failed to shoot them yesterday (November 12, 2019) in broad daylight.

The 2 CAAs, identified as CAA Ricky P. Oliveros and CAA Ruben Estorque, are both assigned at 38th Infantry Battalion.

The two were riding each a motorcycle on their way back to their patrol base in Brgy. Saniag, Ampatuan, Maguindanao when riding-in-tandem gunmen suddenly overtook to stop a few meters ahead of them and fired upon them.

According to CAAs Oliveros and Estorgue, the back rider suspect immediately fired 5 times at them but the suspect’s gun malfunctioned. They took advantage of the situation where CAA Oliveros drew his service firearm and aimed at the suspects forcing them to surrender.

The gunmen were identified as Salamat Kasim, 19, and Saber Kusain, 23. It was learned that they were using a .45 – caliber pistol.

The incident happened at Sitio Sabaduhan, Barangay Kauran of Ampatuan town at around 1:00 p.m.

Also seized from the suspects were 2 magazines loaded with ammunition, a sachet of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, and 3 mobile phones.

Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon, Commander of Joint Task Force Central commended the 2 CAAs for their presence of mind and quick reaction and for following the rule of law on how they dealt with the suspects. He also reminded every soldier to be highly vigilant at all times to prevent more killings among the troops.
