Sulu Province – Two bandits of the Abu Sayyaf Group were killed and two soldiers wounded during a clash with 5th Scout Ranger Battalion in Brgy. Bakong, Patikul, Sulu, around 1 o’clock in the afternoon, today, February 23, 2020.
The 15th Scout Ranger Company led by 1st Lieutenant Jay-arr Quiapo encountered more or less forty (40) fully armed men confirmed under ASG leader Radullan Sahiron while conducting focused military operations. One of the slain bandits was identified as Baby Abdurasa which is known to be notorious and was selected as a mission suicide bomber. The recovered bodies were brought to Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital this afternoon for proper turn-over. Likewise, families of the said slain ASG bandits were informed thereafter.
Recently, Sulu Governor Abdusakur M. Tan denounced the infamous ASG on February 17, 2020 in relation to their terroristic acts that displaced the community of Brgy Bungkaong, Patikul, Sulu last January 2019 which led to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s campaign for an all-out war towards the said bandits. Likewise, ASG were also declared as Persona Non Grata in Parang, Sulu during the peace covenant spearheaded by Governor Tan and Parang Mayor Alkhadar T. Loong instilling their persuasive initiatives that will strengthen and institutionalize public safety, security and well-being. The community are now more active to get rid of the bandits’ presence so that peace will emanate in their areas.
Meanwhile, Joint Task Force Sulu under the command of Major General Corleto S. Vinluan Jr. are on pursuit operation in order to further the momentum, “The denouncement of ASG in Patikul and their declaration as Persona Non Grata in Parang, Sulu clearly made a fallout with the clash that we experienced today. We will pursue to end these terrorist bandits’ criminal activities and make sure to give the community the peace that they deserved” he said.
