CAMP SIONGCO, MAGUINDANAO – The 1st Mechanized Brigade’s continuing campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms is reaping success as Maguindanao folks themselves surrender their personal firearms to military authorities.
Just recently, a total of 32 loose firearms were hand-over to Lt Col Alvin G. Iyog, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion commanding officer, during a turnover ceremony held at Municipal Hall, Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat, January 11.
The ceremony was spearheaded by Hon. Helen Latog, Mayor of Municipality of Esperanza.
A total of thirty one 12 – gauge shotguns with ammunition and one cal. 40 light pistol were handed-over by the local folks from different barangays of the Esperanza town and facilitated by the local government.
“The hand over is a continuing campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms in the area of 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade in partnership with other stakeholders and local government, “ said Brigadier General Robert C. Dauz, Bde Commander.
Maj Gen Cirilito E. Sobejana, Joint Task Force Central Commander expressed his gratitude to the efforts of the local government officials and its constituents for extending Esperanza’s support to the AFP’s campaign against loose firearms.
“ I also commend Brigadier General Dauz and Lt Col Iyog, Commander 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade and 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, respectively, for the job well-dne, “ Major General Sobejana added.
A total of 1,972 firearms were handed-over and recovered in the areas of JTF Central since the campaign started.
