Brgy Dao, Oras – As the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) celebrated its 50 th Anniversary, thirteen (13) members of NPA’s Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (SPL) and Milisya ng Bayan (MB) voluntarily surrendered to the 14 th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine
Army under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy V Jimenez on December 26, 2018 during the Peace Rally orchestrated by the LGU at Brgy Balagon, Can-Avid, Eastern Samar.

Lieutenant Colonel JIMENEZ said “The collapse of the Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) in the neighboring barangays of Brgy Balagon (Brgy Boco and Brgy Pandol) prompted the surrender as the community was empowered and was incited to take a stand against the Communists-NPA Terrorists (CNTs)”.

The villagers expressed their anger against the CPP-NPA-NDF by burning the local communist terrorist’s flag and the image of its oppressor-leaders which include Joma Sison.

Barangay Balagon has been enslaved and terrorized by the NPA armed rebels for a long period of time. The surrenderers were previously organized by the CPP-NPA’s Front Committee 3 of Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee.

One of the surrenderers expressed that “The propaganda of the CPP-NPA rebels is totally a lie. We have seen our comrades who surrendered before us live happily with their families; the NPA made us as their slaves and wanted us to suffer for the rest of our lives”. “We are very glad that the Philippine Army soldiers belonging to 14 th Infantry Battalion saved us from further depredation”, he added.

The surrenderers decided to go back to the folds of the law as a gift to their families and to have a new life and to live peacefully.

“The 14 th Infantry (Avenger) Battalion will be relentless in its campaign against the communists terrorist NPA and will continue to liberate the communities from the claws of CPP-NPA’s violent ideology and terroristic activities”, LTC JIMENEZ added.
